Our story

The bakery is the family business of two brothers, Vangelis and Thodoros Markou. Vangelis was born in the settlement in 1973 and Thodoros in 1975. The brothers remember the red-earth roads, neighbours fetching water from the tap at the Giannopoulos factory, and milk arriving at the yards by donkey.

In 1999 the bakery opened on the neighbourhood's main street, Seferi, where the old “Vangelis’ grill house” used to be and where the “Proodos” co-operative held its meetings. Ever since, Vangelis and Thodoros have kept it open together every day from before dawn.

Baking starts at 3 in the morning, so that at 4, when the door opens, the shelves are already full: village loaves and sourdough, rye, multigrain, the dinkel (spelt) bread you won’t find at any other bakery, koulouria, pies and the sweets of the pastry counter.
